Feminist Readings of South Asian Spiritualities offers a space to discuss and explore feminist and de-colonial perspectives on spiritualities found in the South Asian diaspora. This session will focus on Islam and feminist perspectives with guest speakers, Khadijah Kanji and Salima Versi who will examine feminist understandings of Islam and embodied practices, misogyny and myths that perpetuate gender based violence.

Khadijah Kanji holds a masters in social work. She works in research, programming, and public education on issues of Islamophobia, racism, transphobia/homophobia and other areas of social justice.

Salima Versi holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology & Religion and a Master's degree in Religion & Modernity from Queen's University, and is currently a PhD candidate in the University of Alberta's Religious Studies Program.
