Moving Forward: Faculty of Arts & Science students are encouraged to attend this session.

Moving Forward is a Summer Transition Program specifically designed for new, incoming students (who identify as living with a disability) entering any level of post-secondary education (undergraduate, graduate, college). This one-day program provides support to students living with disabilities including:

  • Navigating accommodations at the post-secondary level
  • Introduction to online learning, lectures, & note-taking
  • Strategies for managing life in and out of the classroom (including tips for virtual and hybrid learning)
  • University-level academic learning strategies and skills
  • Meeting a community of peers & connect with Accessibility Services staff
  • Connect with upper-year Faculty of Art & Science students to hear about their experiences
  • Transition to the next stage of your academic career.
Moving Forward is a series of workshops, panels, and strategy sessions to introduce you to Accessibility Services, accommodations, and tips to prepare you for post-secondary learning!

Program Eligibility
 
Moving Forward is open to any student entering post-secondary studies at any university or college in Canada. Incoming students to University of Toronto St. George, Mississauga, & Scarborough are all welcome to attend!
 
This summer program session is geared towards incoming undergraduate tudents entering first-year at any post-secondary institution, who identify as living with a disability. Moving Forward offers multiple opportunities/dates to enroll, with some programming days specifically designed with certain populations in mind (those events/dates will clearly specify if there is a programming focus).

Format:  Moving Forward will be offered virtually via Zoom. The day will include multiple sessions with both large group and breakout room opportunities. Breaks will be incorporated in the day. Students are encouraged to attend the full day of programming to make the most of Moving Forward. You will have the opportunity to ask questions about the registration process, next steps, and other questions related to the transition to post-secondary education.

Participation: Being on camera, using your mic, or participating in the chat are all optional. We welcome you to participate in a way that works for you. You are welcome to ask your own questions or simply observe these sessions to learn from ongoing discussions.

Materials: You are not required to bring any materials to these sessions, but we encourage you take notes if this works best for you. We encourage students to watch our prerecorded Transition Day video series to help frame the day.

Platform access information: This event will be delivered using Zoom. Please ensure your Zoom access is up to date to make the most of this session. For information and guidance on how to set up and use Zoom, please check the Zoom website and tutorials (e.g., how to join meetings, meeting controls, breakout rooms, closed captioning, etc.).

The workshops/events hosted by Accessibility Services on CLNx are geared to students who self-identify as living with a disability. If you require any accommodations to fully participate in this event, please connect with Elaine Munro (elaine.munro@utoronto.ca) in advance of the date.
