Student Life Events at St. George

How First Gen, Southeast Asian, Latin American & African Black Caribbean Students Redefine Success

Nov 9, 2021 02:00 PM to 03:30 PM

Registration Deadline: Nov 9, 2021 03:30 PM

Goal Statement:
To help First Generation, Southeast Asian, Latin American & African Black Caribbean students better understand what success means to them, through a critical lens.

Learning Outcome:
Students who participate will be able to review past successes, and articulate their own idea of future success.

Description:
Students will begin by critically interrogating ideas of success that are activated in the daily life of the university, and develop an awareness of how these ideas shape experiences of school.  We will also explore ideas of success coming from outside the university (including especially family and past experiences of schooling). We will expand the idea of success, practice recognizing success on our own terms, and develop strategies for sharing this with family and peer groups.

Partners & Guests:
Jasjit Sangha, Learning Strategist and Rahul Bhat, Resilience Program Lead, Academic Success.
