Grad and professional schools student workshop

ALLEVIATE BURNOUT & REVIVE ACADEMIC ENERGY

The mental and emotional workload of graduate school (including TAships, part-time jobs, family care responsibilities, etc.) can easily invite burnout, especially as winter season is ending.

This workshop will look at:
  • the physiological function of stress and why academic stress can be maladaptive
  • impacts of stress and burnout on academic performance and well-being
  • a somatic (embodiment) psychology view of stress, to point to simple, practical interventions
  • what self-care actually means (from a behavioural learning perspective)
  • self-value/self-theory, and the importance of "spirit" (inspiration, motivation, self-care) for sustained academic performance over the long haul
