11:30 AM
800 Bay - Workshop Room A
Registration Deadline: Nov 29, 2024 09:00 AM
This in-person session for master's and PhD students and postdoctoral fellows is a space to explore cultivating a community of support for both academic and non-academic careers. If you have found concepts like networking tricky or complicated or are not sure how to build a career community of support, this is the session for you.
Whether you are interested in pursuing a career in academia or seeking non-academic opportunities after completing your graduate studies, the people around you will be important to your career and you will be important in theirs. In this session, we will discuss:
- Ways to build connections with peers, your supervisor, committee members, and other staff and faculty you may interact with
- How to talk to people at conferences
- Cultivating peer connections for support now and in the future
- Acknowledging competitive environments that can make it difficult to share and connect with others
- Supporting and advocating for others in your career community
Accessibility Note:
While we encourage community building and connection in the session, we understand that some may wish to participate independently. We trust you know what is best for you, so you will have an opportunity to work on your document independently and/or in collaboration with others.
What you need to know:
- Ensure you register! Registration will close by 9am on the day of the workshop.
- If possible, please arrive a couple of minutes before the start time as events start on time and you don't want to miss important information.
- If you can no longer attend, please cancel your registration to allow others the opportunity to participate.
- If there is additional capacity, waitlisted individuals will be notified via email prior to the start of the session.
