Healing with Yoga

Sep 16, 2020 06:00 PM to 07:00 PM

Registration Deadline: Sep 16, 2020 07:00 PM

Practice healing through yoga with an experienced instructor from a trauma-informed approach.

A trauma-informed approach pays particular attention to how trauma is held in the body and explores how to move towards healing. Our facilitator, Rose Mina Munjee, is a Registered Psychotherapist, Certified Therapeutic Yoga and Mindfulness Teacher (MBSR, MBCT, MSC, AMM Mind), and is completing Master's in Spiritual Care Buddhist Studies. You can find a more detailed bio from Rose below.

Rose Mina Munjee, facilitator:
Sometimes, people go through difficult times in their lives. They face issues with relationships, social/community support, gender/sexuality, grief, job loss, trauma, or mental health. When going through a crisis, people may feel helpless, hopeless, or lost. I believe each person is whole and everyone is deserving of love, compassion, and understanding. I am here to support my clients in dealing with their struggles, helping them understand they are not alone, connecting them with what truly matters, focusing on their needs, providing them with a safe avenue to share thoughts or feelings without judgment, and to explore what they are afraid of. Being an immigrant woman of South Asian descent and having faced displacement, oppression, and inequality, I am empathetic towards the plight of marginalized people, inspired to help alleviate suffering.

I am an experienced psychotherapist and evidence based mindfulness teacher, on the faculty of Centre for Mindfulness Studies, Union Yoga Teacher Training, and AMM-Mind (University of Toronto). I have been teaching and practicing therapeutic and restorative yoga, craniosacral therapy, and mindfulness meditation for over 16 years. I discovered mindfulness and yoga in my journey towards healing from a stressful corporate work environment and early traumatic experiences. I have over 600 hours of yoga teacher training and I am certified in Mindfulness programs, including MBSR (mindfulness based stress reduction), MBCT (mindfulness based cognitive therapy), and MSC (mindful self compassion). I am grounded in academic knowledge - completing a master?s degree in spiritual care and psychotherapy, a personal mindfulness practice, working with diverse patients in various clinical settings (Scarborough Health Network and Royal Victoria Hospital), and facilitating/coordinating mindfulness meditation at The 519. I am also a writer, focusing on mindfulness research and history, integrated with psychotherapy practice.

My sessions empower clients to learn techniques to deal with difficult emotions and demands on body and mind. I bring the lens of Buddhist mindfulness and trauma informed psychotherapy. I use tools such as acceptance commitment and mindfulness based cognitive therapy with a relational focus to help clients. I do not to impose my views on clients, but rather work within the context of their lives and beliefs to help them find hope, meaning, and integration.
