How Buddhism Travels From East to West

Nov 8, 2023 05:30 PM to 06:30 PM

Registration Deadline: Nov 8, 2023 06:30 PM

Join us and presenter Melina Bondy to learn about Buddism, and how Buddhism has travelled to, and integrated as part of Western culture.

Melina Bondy, RP(Q), (they/them) began meditation and Dharma practice in 2003 in both Plum Village and Vipassana traditions, eventually taking monastic vows under the Vietnamese Zen Master and peace activist Thich Nhat Hanh in 2012. After six years in the monastery and three more as a wandering mendicant, Melina returned to lay life in 2021. They now offer somatic psychotherapy through Mindfulness for Life Therapy as well as teach meditation and Dharma classes oriented toward social justice and creativity. Melina completed the True North Insight Community Meditation Leader Mentorship program in 2022 and has completed almost a year of silent meditation retreats. As a queer, gender-fluid, white settler, Melina is learning to live with respect on the colonized land of Tkaronto where they continue to study theology at the University of Toronto.
