Black Students Talk with Black Profs!: Confronting MACROaggressions in the Classroom

Goal:

  • To inform and equip Black students to confront macroaggressions in the classroom.
Learning Outcomes:
  • Students who participate will be able to cite at least three (3) types of macroaggressions, and contribute to the demands for zero tolerance policies;
  • By the end of this event students will be able to exercise at least three (3) self-confidence boosting strategies, to seek and receive support to confront macroaggressions.
Description:
  • This one (1) hour drop-in event will give Black students the opportunity to discuss with Black faculty recent N-word and other macroaggression incidents at various post secondary institutions, and the demands for zero-tolerance policies. Guest Black faculty are Dr. Janelle Joseph and Dr. Alissa Trotz.
The Black Students Talk with Black Profs! series is an opportunity for Black students to meet each other including Black Mentor Navigators, and Black professors from a variety of departments. Connect around shared experiences of race and racism. Students will practice networking skills, establish supportive relationships, and discover relatable Black faculty.
