Speaking to Power with Clarity and Effectiveness

Making a request for accommodations or consideration from your professors, teaching assistants or supervisors can be an intimidating process. You may struggle to know what to say, maintain your sense of competence as a student or assess if their response is reasonable or not. This workshop will use poetry and writing to explore the areas in which you feel hesitant in asking for what you need. The workshop will also give you practical tools to support you standing in the power of your request. No experience necessary. Please have a pen and paper, a notebook, or whatever you like to write with on hand.

Format:  Speaking to Power with Clarity and Effectiveness will be offered virtually via MS Teams. Students are encouraged to attend for the full session. The session is a collaborative event between Accessibility Services, Academic Success, Family Care Office, and Multi-Faith Centre. Students are welcome to take breaks during the session as needed.
Participation: Being on camera, using your mic, or participating in the chat are all optional when attending virtually. We welcome you to participate in a way that works for you. There will be breakout rooms. Students are welcome to bring their own questions to the event.
Materials: Slides will be sent to attendees via email after the session.
Platform Access Information: This event will be delivered using MS Teams.
