Registration Deadline: Aug 23, 2023 04:00 PM

Description
In partnership with the University Registrar's Office, Woodsworth College and the University of Toronto Students' Union, African Black Caribbean, Latin American, Southeast Asian and First Generation students are more likely to experience financial hardship. This workshop will help you to understand what government and U of T funding is available. The presentation in the first hour will primarily focus on the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP). International and any other students are welcome to join the event in the second hour for the information and discussion about undergraduate and graduate awards and financial counselling. (Please invite your family / supporters to join you, but note that for safety reasons only mail.utoronto.ca emails will be permitted to join this online session).

This workshop will also introduce the new 2023 - 2024 African Black Caribbean, Latin American, Southeast Asian and First Generation Mentor Navigators!

Presenters & Panelists:

Sid Naraine

Sid Naraine worked in financial aid for 20+ years, mainly as a full-time OSAP Counsellor.  His focus is reviewing documents and providing information regarding full-time OSAP supporting documents, appeals, and some restrictions.  His best advice is to "plan ahead, apply early for funding (3 months before classes start), check your status regularly for updates and communication messages, and to update your contact information on the OSAP website (www.ontario.ca/osap), the National Student Loans Service centre website (www.nslsc.ca), and (once you're admitted and enrolled) the U of T ACORN website (www.acorn.utoronto.ca).

and

Yvonne Hilder

Yvonne Hilder is the Awards Officer at Woodsworth College. She works with undergraduate students at the College to assist with financial aid matters including grants based on financial need, scholarships to recognize academic achievement, as well as providing general financial and budgeting advice. When not working she may be found either in her garden or out on a long meandering walk. Money-saving tip: spend Sunday evening cooking a big pot of something you can eat for lunch a few days in the upcoming week!
