As part of the Interfaith Meals program, the Multi-Faith Centre and Centre for International Experience will be hosting a lunch in honour of Pongal on Monday 15th, from 12:00-2:00pm.

Pongal (pronounced: pong-gl) is a traditional harvest festival observed to mark the end of the winter solstice, celebrated by Tamil people in India, Sri Lanka, and beyond. The festival consists of three days, including Bhogi Pongal, Thai Pongal, Mattu Pongal, and some recognize a fourth day called Kaanum Pongal. Pongal is not only a time for celebrating the harvest, but also a festival that emphasizes family bonds, prayer, and gratitude towards nature and its gifts through activities such as decorating cows. The festival's name, "pongal," is derived from the Tamil word meaning "to boil or overflow," and is also the name of the festival's staple food, a special sweet rice dish typically served during celebrations.

All are welcome!
