Interfaith Meals: Lunar New Year Lunch

As part of the Interfaith Meals program, the Multi-Faith Centre and Centre for International Experience will be hosting a lunch in honour of the Lunar New Year on Tuesday 6th, from 12:00-2:00pm.

Lunar New Year marks the first new moon of the lunar calendar and is celebrated by various countries, including Vietnam, China, North and South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, and Brunei. Celebrations typically start from the sighting of the first new moon to the arrival of the full moon, which takes about Lunar New Year is a time of coming together, feasting, and honouring ancestors and deities. Some traditions commmonly practiced across cultures include cleaning the house to remove evil spirits and create room for good luck and prosperity, offering food to ancestors, hanging up banners with messages wishing for good fortune, and elders providing money envelopes to children. Often, foods contaiing rice, dumplings, spring rolls, noodls and so on are served during celebrations, some of which are assocaited with luck, wealth, and happiness depending on the culture.
