International Women's Day: Inspiring Inclusion

Join us for a celebration of International Women's Day with Indigenous Elder and Storyteller Ma-Nee Chacaby who will be joining us via zoom for storytelling while students paint what comes to mind and of heart while listening. We will also have light snacks and refreshments. This event is in collaboration with the Multi-Faith Centre and the Sexual Violence Prevention and Support Centre.

Ma-Nee Chacaby is a two-spirit Ojibwa-Cree Elder. Ma-Nee identifies as two-spirit and has been an advocate and inspiration for Two-Spirit communities across Canada. She is a storyteller, artist, community advocate and author, publishing her first book, A Two-Spirit Journey: The Autobiography of a Lesbian Ojibwa-Cree Elder, using her art as spiritual healing. She currently resides in Thunder Bay and in 2013 led the first gay pride parade in Thunder Bay,. She is the recipient of the Community Hero Award at the City of Thunder Bay's annual Mayor's Community Safety Awards.

This year's International Women's Day 2024 campaign theme is 'Inspire Inclusion'. This year's theme is centered on celebrating diversity and empowerment in all aspects of society, which calls for action to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and foster a more equitable society.
