Career Support Drop-In (In-Person)

The Career Support Drop-ins provide students flexibility and opportunity to engage in diverse career conversations, while being in community with other students seeking career support from Peer Career Advisors and Career Educators - ALL undergraduate students, graduate students, and recent grads are welcome!

From October 21, 2024 - March 21, 2025 (excluding December 2, 2024 - January 9, 2025), come join us in person every Monday and Thursday from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. at 800 Bay Street (5th floor), where you can:
 

  • Attend a one-on-one drop-in appointment with a Peer Career Advisor for: 
    • Career Start - Resource Referral
      • Help you clarify your career question(s) and highlight specific programs, services, and resources that meet your unique need(s) and career goals! Think of the peer career advisors as your personal concierge to Career Exploration & Education
    • Résumé or Cover Letter Review
      • Review your résumé and provide feedback about tailoring, formatting, highlighting your accomplishments, and other tips to strengthen your résumé.
        If you are applying to graduate-level programs or senior-level positions, please book an Application Review appointment with a Career Educator (on CLNx)
    • LinkedIn Review
      • Review your LinkedIn profile and provide feedback about each of the main sections (Headline, About, Experience and Education), as well as how to highlight your accomplishments and tailor your profile
    • Interview Prep
      • Help you identify the core competencies of the role, and learn about common question types and how to craft the best answer. You're encouraged to bring a job posting to the appointment to help identify the relevant competencies
        Note that mock interview practice is not offered through these appointments. For practice interviews, please book an Interview Practice appointment with a Career Educator (on CLNx)
  • Browse our career resources, workbooks, and toolkits
  • Participate in monthly-themed group discussions space with fellow students and recent graduates, facilitated by a Career Educator, or
  • Work on your job application materials in a shared space and connect with others over snacks!

Fall 2024 Monthly-Themed Group Discussions:

October: "What about Further Education?" 
Explore further education options (e.g., graduate degree, certificate program), participate in conversations and activities around strategies to clarify career directions. Identify the essentials of an application (including key documents like CVs and personal statements), develop an application strategy, and explore decision making about your next steps.

November: "Now that I'm graduating, how do I get a job?"
If you're feeling stuck in your job search, discuss and develop your job search plan. Identify strategies to navigate the job search process (including networking, application documents, and interviewing), and discuss needs and accommodations.

Note: this session is offered IN PERSON at 800 Bay Street, 5th floor (in the main lobby, only take one of the 3 elevators on the right-hand side).

What you need to know:
  • Ensure you register! Registration will close by 9am on the day of the workshop.
  • If you can no longer attend, please cancel your registration to allow others the opportunity to participate.
  • If there is additional capacity, individuals on the waitlist will be notified via email prior to the start of the session.
  • Only University of Toronto students and recent graduates (within the past two years) are eligible to attend.

How the event works:
  • Movement involved: Alternatives to moving around the room are built into the agenda.
  • Participation Expectations: Participants are expected to attend in person. Individuals will be sitting in small groups and participate in multiple small group discussions.
  • Workshop Space: The room is on the 5th floor accessed by elevators. It has large windows along one side of the room and moveable tables and chairs to accommodate mobility devices. Reserved seating can be provided upon request.
  • Materials: You can bring draft application materials to this event. We encourage you to come prepared with questions and suggest you bring something to record your thoughts and notes.
  • Privacy: Workshops will not be recorded without the express permission of the participants.
  • Washrooms: Accessible and all gender washrooms are located on the same floor, near reception
