Resilience in Action: Balancing School, Life and Career

This panel will explore strategies for building resilience, managing competing priorities, and thriving in both academic and personal spheres. Hear from experienced students and professionals who have successfully navigated these obstacles and discover how their struggles shaped their careers, equipping them with unique skills that now drive their professional success. Through a panel discussion and open networking, students will gain valuable insights and have the opportunity to share their experiences. 
 
In partnership with the Centre for Student Engagement.

Attending Panelists 

Hiba Omar - Hiba Omar is a Product Manager with a passion for using technology to build connections. At UTM, she double-majored in Experimental Linguistics and Sociology, volunteered on campus, worked at the International Education Centre, and assisted in Linguistic research - all while navigating adulthood with a visual impairment. 

Wolfgang Van Rosan - As a refugee, Wolfgang Van Rosan was introduced early in his childhood to Canadian compassion and kindness. During his studies at the University of Toronto, his mother fell ill and required dedicated care for five years. Thanks to his network of classmates, he was able to eventually complete his studies.

Lamia Hossain - Lamia Hossain is a Regional Indigenous Project Coordinator at Trillium Health Partners, championing equitable cancer care for Indigenous communities. A UTM Psychology graduate, she balanced academics, extracurriculars, volunteering, and frontline work amid a global pandemic. Turning challenges into opportunities, she now designs programs centering Indigenous voices, proving resilience drives change.

Brittany Pasher - Brittany is a Registered Psychotherapist who aims to support folks in designing value-driven career paths. As a first-generation student who has faced financial and health challenges throughout her academic career, she has come to recognize the power of leveraging lived experience as a source of guidance and resilience in career building.
